ZAMBEZI SUN

the smoke that thunders

Two resort hotels on the edge of the World Heritage Victoria Falls, comprising a 200 bed five-star hotel as well as a three-star 200 bed hotel, for international hotel group, Sun International. The brief also included conference facilities, a shopping complex, casino and staff village.

The planning of the three-star hotel bas based on a traditional African village with the accommodation grouped around the communal facilities.  A North African adobe narrative was woven into the architecture  and the external colour palette was inspired by the natural colour of the earth around the Victoria Falls.

The five-star hotel was designed along the edge of the river to maximise the amenity and offer beautiful views of the ‘’mosi oa tunya “ which is Lozi for ‘’ the smoke that thunders”, as described by David Livingstone, when he discovered the falls in 1855.
