FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

Bruce Stafford, founding director at Stafford Architecture, discovered his passion for creative expression early in life through art, sculpture, and later architecture. Believing that environment, attitude, and lifestyle shape one’s life, Bruce has carried this philosophy for over 40 years. After winning a national design competition, he launched his practice in South Africa just a year out of university. His breakthrough came in the mid-1990s when his design for a luxury eco-resort in an African game park was voted the world’s best hotel by Condé Nast Traveller. This recognition led to luxury home design commissions in Sydney, where he then established Stafford Architecture in 2001, located in Double Bay.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Known for his passion for honest materiality and bespoke detailing, Joe oversees projects from concept to completion. He serves as a key point of contact for clients, consultants, and builders. His easy-going nature and commitment to mentoring encourages a collaborative process and keeps the studio active and vibrant. Joe’s hands-on involvement at every stage fosters strong relationships and seamless communication, resulting in distinctive spaces that are both practical and creatively inspired.

Julian is a multidisciplinary designer working in his spare time with ceramics, furniture design, cinematography, and performance art. In contrast to the immediacy and temporal nature of these artforms, Julian delights in the permanency of architecture and its enduring influence over our sense of place and space. Julian seeks clarity and simplicity in his craft and believes that design should distil a world of influences to a pure, simple expression. He works to balance function and beauty in equal parts, leaving only that which we cannot do without.  

SENIOR ASSOCIATE & INTERIOR DESIGNER

Brittany joined Stafford Architecture after receiving a B. Architecture (University of Technology, Sydney) and a B.Interior Design (Billy Blue College of Design | Torrens University Australia. Prior to joining Stafford Architecture, Brittany focused exclusively on multiple high end residential projects amongst Sydney’s eastern suburbs coastal and harbourside enclaves. Spending much of her childhood and formative years residing in Sydney’s harbourside eastern suburbs, Brittany has cultivated an innate response to context which embodies contemporary living; focusing on space, light and materiality with layered texture.

James finds “Journey” as an integral part to his design process, creating lineaments and interest to draw you through spaces, enticing the curiosity. With a rigorous and inquisitive approach to design, his goal is to achieve simplicity through the complexity, to create spaces which are elegant and considered. He is relentlessly committed to achieving the highest level of architecture, finely tuned to suit each client. Above all he believes collaboration, mutual respect, and the interpretation clients’ dreams are what truly makes great Architecture.

ASSOCIATE

Amit joined Stafford Architecture as a Registered Architect, bringing with him extensive experience in delivering luxury residences in Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Quietly confident and always inquisitive, Amit enjoys the journey of building a home, relishing every step of the process with a keen eye for detail. Stepping away from the drawing board, Amit loves working with contractors to realise Stafford’s elegant designs. His ability to stay ahead of the curve and anticipate challenges ensures that each project unfolds seamlessly from start to finish. Beyond his architectural endeavours, Amit is fascinated by the vastness of the night sky. In a parallel universe, a career as an astronomer or a cricketer would have been a certainty, but here on Earth, he is dedicated to turning houses into exquisite homes.

ASSOCIATE

Harriet is driven by a passion for residential architecture, constantly seeking innovative ways to design spaces that evoke joy and delight to enhance the everyday lifestyles of her clients. With local experience, spanning over a decade, Harriet specialises in high-end residential homes. She is a NSW registered architect and holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of Sydney. During her Masters, she studied on exchange at Lund University, Sweden. In 2016, Harriet’s design work was exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale, one of the oldest and most prestigious international exhibitions of architecture. She continues to engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies. 

SENIOR PROJECT ARCHITECT

Ana is a lively soul with a keen eye for design and a determination to deliver great projects. She brings years of experience to her work, with a background in both residential and commercial sectors, and time spent in various award-winning practices throughout Sydney honing her skills. This gives her a comprehensive understanding of architecture that finds expression in well detailed, clearly planned spaces that strive for elegance and thoughtful execution.  When she’s not in the office, she can be found either hiking through the great outdoors, experimenting with film photography, trail running, or maybe snowboarding. She recently tried skiing and was not a fan.

SENIOR PROJECT ARCHITECT

Chelsea has always had a keen interest in high-end residential design, an innate sense of style and a deep appreciation for beautiful spaces. Chelsea believes that architecture should be an extension of one’s lifestyle and should aim to elevate the everyday experience. Drawing upon her formative years spent living across Asia and Europe, Chelsea innately channels these experiences into her work, creating timeless homes that encapsulate a blend of functionality and aesthetics, focusing on the seamless integration of interiors with architecture. When she’s not at work or overseas travelling, you can find Chelsea sipping on a glass of red wine while cooking or dreaming up her perfect walk-in-robe. Chelsea is particularly passionate about bespoke detailing and has a keen focus on the seamless integration of interiors with architecture. Her design approach results in cohesive and considered spaces that not only reflect her clients’ lifestyles but also pay homage to both the site and its historical context.

SENIOR PROJECT LEAD

Ben joined Stafford Architecture at the beginning of 2022 after five years in New York City, where he worked on luxury resorts in the Caribbean and multi-residential projects across the United States. Since returning to Sydney, he has pivoted to residential architecture and is driven by the intimate scale and personality of such projects. He continually strives to design spaces that facilitate a greater connection between people and their surroundings, with the hope to provide calm and a sense of wellbeing and sanctuary. 

PROJECT ARCHITECT

Marney, a registered Architect, joined Stafford in early 2023 bringing a wealth of experience working in high end residential design. Having previously worked at Fender Katsalidis Architects and K.P.D.O. her experience across a diverse range of projects has given her a well-rounded approach to design, a good understanding of construction and an astute understanding of her design ethos. Inspired by modernist design and great Australian Architects, her passion is to deliver thoughtful and evocative spaces. She strives to uncover the hidden possibilities through exploration and creativity. Marney is approachable and observant. She listens, and she understands. She loves working collaboratively with her clients and colleagues to create spaces that truly reflect those who live in them. Every space is an empty canvas, waiting for personality to be applied. 

DIGITAL MARKETING COORDINATOR & GRADUATE OF ARCHITECTURE

Grounded in a profound appreciation for architectural landscapes and a dedication to digital representation, Charlie’s passion for architecture and design is driven by the belief that thoughtful designs can enhance both individual lifestyles and the built environment. Leveraging his background in architecture and a deep passion for digital representation, charlie has enthusiastically embraced these aspects at Stafford. His approach merges architectural creativity with digital proficiency, aiming to elevate design narratives and enrich user experience. His dedication lies in harmonizing creativity with compelling content, exploring the intersection of architectural and landscape design, and developing a deeper curiosity for how the two disciplines can merge to create a sustainable ecosystem.

With extensive experience in high-end residential projects both in Australia and abroad, Cristiane brings a wealth of knowledge and a refined sensibility to her journey in architecture. Her approach is grounded in strong principles of honesty and respect, which she carries into every aspect of her personal and professional life. She values self-awareness and simplicity, striving to infuse her projects with a positive, approachable vibe that reflects her own friendly and optimistic nature. Beyond architecture, Cris finds joy in walking and exploring new places, which continually inspires her design work and keeps her creativity fresh. Her passion for discovering new environments aligns with her belief in the importance of simplicity and authenticity in creating spaces that truly resonate with people. She is dedicated to delivering exceptional results while maintaining a harmonious and positive atmosphere throughout the design process.

GRADUATE OF ARCHITECTURE

Alexzandra joined Stafford Architecture in 2021, after practising with Koichi Takada Architects, where she contributed to the creation of powerfully organic architecture, through several high end residential, multi residential and hospitality projects amongst Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. 

Having her architectural master’s degree as well as a firm, background in interior design, she has the advantage to work simultaneously across both fields, contributing to all aspects of design. With a passion for luxury design, Alexzandra believes intelligent architecture unites technology, sustainability and human senses.
