HILLTOP HOUSE

A HORIZONTAL NARRATIVE

The Hilltop House of Bellevue Hill is an additions and alterations project on an existing 90’s home. The original built from was based on large monolithic “boxes” separated by glass gaskets. Our clients came to us feeling this presentation to be too oppressive and lacking in accessibility and warmth. Our approach to this challenge was to breakdown and articulate the existing forms, create a collection of smaller structures which connect better with the human scale.

Our aim with the exterior finishes was to create a colour palette which felt warm and accessible; layering comfortably with the relaxed feel of the landscape design. Sandstone, textured render, durable hardwoods create a visually inviting and comfortable presentation to the street. Inside, generous skylights providing an abundance of natural light to the living and circulation spaces.
